Acadia

It's Father's Day over here so we take Bill and Fiona and the kids out for the day. Put up the back row of seats and we have plenty of room in the car for everyone.

First stop, Grand Pre on the Northern side of the Peninsula. It's a site dedicated to the memory of the Acadian people, French Catholic in origin but refusing to take either the British or French side during the ongoing conflict. They built dykes, drained the low lying land and farmed the very fertile soil. However, they were not trusted by those nasty British people and expelled. Many ended up in Louisiana. The museum and chapel is now maintained by the Canadian Government and presents the story really well.

The day only gets better from here. Bill has heard of a brewpub not far away so we head for Port Williams. As the day is now so warm (I know how you all love hearing that) we sit outside and have lunch washed down with a couple of local beers. Great beer in a picturesque setting.

Finally, on to Luckett's Winery. We had a quick tour of the winery then tried a few of the wines. I'm not familiar with some of the grapes they use but the wines I tasted we're pretty good. I then had a chat with the owner, Pete, as I had recognised his Nottingham accent. He had been working his way around the world 30 odd years ago and run out of money, so stayed in Nova Scotia and set up several successful businesses. The winery had only been open for a year.

He asked where I was from and knew Melbourne and asked about the English accent. When I told him I was from Cromer he recounted a very pleasant memory he had of the town - that's all I can really say about that here!
